Goals

General objective

• Promote stricto sensu research in Surgery and Ophthalmology aimed at answering knowledge gaps by means of the correct application of the scientific method, forming masters and doctors to become qualified teachers and researchers, leading to an improvement in the quality of health care in the country and the world.

Specific objectives

• Train individuals with skills to develop, in a constructive and critical way, teaching, research and health care.

• Program, propose, carry out and disseminate autonomous, creative, innovative and socially inserted research.

• Empower researchers to identify global, socially relevant problems to target the focus of scientific research.

• Teach, provide and encourage the search for fundraising for the projects to be developed.

• To stimulate the integration of teachers of the Program with researchers from other Brazilian and international institutions of teaching and research.

• Promote international insertion of the research developed in our environment through: Teacher / student participation in international scientific events and visits to external institutions; The increase in the number of publications with international impact (particularly in strata A1, A2 and B1);  To stimulate the training of post doctors under the Program.

• Stimulate the development of patents.

The Program expects to train human resources that may be included in the labor market in Public and / or Private Institutions that are involved in teaching and research activities in Brazil or abroad, with the commitment to promote the development of Science for the benefit of Country and Humanity.

It hopes that the egressed researchers will be able to carry out the acquired scientific knowledge and return to society the benefits of these advances.

The Program expects the egress of the Master’s and Doctoral Degree to acquire knowledge and skills to:

• Develop scientific research within the ethical principles underlying research involving humans and animals

• Knowledge of the literature related to its field of activity

• Critical analysis of own scientific works or developed by another researcher

• Writing research projects and scientific papers

• Preparation and administration of classes

• Critically recognize the master lines of reasoning in the area of ​​knowledge and formulate updated questions.

• Choose the appropriate method to obtain reliable and relevant answers.

• Statistical analysis of databases

• Dexterity in state-of-the-art technologies in the specific area;

• Develop own and independent research of line (academic autonomy)

• Train other researchers and develop research centers.

• Emphasize the qualified and productive training of the student body.

• Set up the discipline structure or postgraduate program based on ethics, scientific and technological development and innovation.

• Propose clear projects related to lines of research and area of ​​concentration.
